MAKING A LESSON PLAN
There are different lesson plans templates or formats used by different schools and educators.
1. The title should show what lesson plan it is.
2. Date should reflect the present time for the lesson.
3. The objectives of a lesson plan should be S.M.A.R.T which means specific, measurable, achievable, result focused and time-based. These objectives should be visible to the learners and administrators.
4. Plan; lesson plans should have a beginning, a middle and an end. It could involve a sequence of activities.
5. Homework: it very necessary to includes home works in a lesson plane
6. Differentiation: this should be visible in the method of instructions, evaluation and hands-on activities etc., there should be accommodations for IEP.
7. Motivation: a lesson plan should involve how to draw the learners’ attention to the lesson and make them more interested in the lesson. This could be a real life situation, a story etc.
8. Technology; Add technology skills and practices to your lesson if possible.
9. Written Notes: writing is a transferrable skill, and learners should be taught to present their work neatly and conscientiously. Even when teaching math learners should learn to write out steps to solving a problem.
10. Assessment: the learners should be assessed based on the lesson’s objectives. This could be a formative assessment or summative.
11. Resource materials: a lesson plan should include the materials and other resources that would be needed in the delivery of the lesson. This will allow the educator to be ready ahead of time. The materials should be age appropriate.
12. Career skills: educators should aim to prepare learners for life after school.
